SHINGLE PRODUCTS IN ANCHORAGE

There are two main styles of asphalt shingles; 3-Tab shingles and laminated shingles. There is also a Designer class of shingles; this type of shingle is the heaviest weight shingle product, and has a unique tab shape and size. Designer shingle products are special-order materials, and they are typically the most expensive of all shingle product offerings.

3-Tab shingles are composed of one flat layer, and do not have a dimensional look to them. 3-Tab shingles have only one shingle tab size and shape. This style of shingle has been mostly discontinued by manufacturers, and as of March 2025, there are no 3-Tab shingle products available locally for repairs.

Laminated shingles, also referred to as architectural or dimensional shingles, are manufactured in layers. Laminated shingle tabs have various sizes and shapes. These various sizes and shapes provide a beautiful aesthetic of texture, color definition, and dimension. There are different grades of laminated shingles available to choose from, with various weights and attributes.

Laminated/architectural/dimensional shingles are not dimensionally compatible with 3-Tab shingles, and it is improper to use them for repairs on an existing 3-Tab shingle roof.
